Useful Tips and Suggestions for better performance of your Cooler Box

You will get 3 to 10 days of use from ice with your Evakool Icekool cooler box if you follow some of these tips:

GENERAL USE:
• When not in use, store your Evakool Icekool box with the lid part open and the bung loose, this will allow the cooler box to “breathe”
• The day before loading, put ice into the Evakool Icekool cooler box to cool down the walls
• Put frozen and/or cold products into the cooler box as this will increase the life of the ice
• Organise the product in your cooler box to ensure that you do not have to keep the lid open longer than necessary
• Top up with ice and leave for an hour or so. Shake the cooler box to allow ice to compact with product and drain any water through the by bung. Re-top up the ice in the box to reduce the amount of air space in the cooler box
• Always re-fasten the lid on the cooler to ensure that the seal is maintained. Open your cooler box the least amount of times possible
• Always keep your cooler in the shadiest, coolest spot. Covering the cooler box will definitely help

ICE MANAGEMENT:
• Ice quality is extremely important. Well “cured” ice, which has been kept at low temperature in a freezer should be used
• Block ice lasts longer than broken/crushed ice
• You can create your own block ice by freezing drinking water in plastic bottles which becomes a valuable source of ice cold fresh drinking water
• Always ensure the bung is correctly screwed back on
• The recommended ratio of ice to product in a cooler box is approximately 1/3 ice to 2/3 product by volume

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE:
• Always wash your cooler box with warm soapy water
• Do not use solvents or other chemicals
• Dry the walls after washing
• Use a shaped piece of polyurethane to create separate areas in your cooler (suggestion).
• Your Evakool Icekool cooler box is strong enough to be used as a seat or a great standing box to look over others at sporting events etc.

Food Safety Tips by Evakool

Food Safety Tips by Evakool

Without a proper kitchen, a dishwasher and a clean set of pot, pans & cutlery, food safety can be difficult to maintain at the campsite. However, it's just as important outdoors as it is inside your kitchen.
When cold foods become warm or meat is not appropriately handled, everyone is at risk for illnesses. Keep these food safety tips in mind next time you braai at the campsite so you can enjoy a safe & delicious meal with an ice cool drink.

Below are a few of our food safety tips to keep in mind for your next camping or fishing trip:

1. Remember to keep perishable food in your Evakool cooler filled with ice or frozen gel packs.
2. If your packets contain juices from raw meats rather store it at the bottom of the Evakool cooler box, below any fresh produce.
3. Be sure to wash your hands before and after touching raw meat.
4. Keeping perishables cool is essential to avoid food becoming unsafe. Keep in mind that bacteria multiply rapidly at warm temperatures. That’s why we suggest packing two coolers for your trip – one for drinks and the other for perishable food.

We are proud to say that we have the best cooler boxes!

7 Tips on how to properly pack an Icecool Evakool Coolerbox

1. Use a cold Icecool Evakool Cooler box
- A cold cooler box will keep the content cooler for longer
-The night before packing your cooler box - place it in a cold place in the house eg: commercial freezer or cold/walking room
-If its winter or cold outside - keep it outside the night before

2. Use ice blocks instead of ice cubes
-Ice blocks simply stay frozen for longer

3. Freeze your content
-Freeze your meat and let it thraw over time
-Freeze your drinks to be completely drink-ready later

4. Keep your Ice Cool Evakool Box closed and latched
-Don't let the cold air leak out and get replaced by warm air

5. Use a divider Evakool Cooler
-Keep your drinks and food separate

6. Clean and airdry your Evakool Cooler after use
-Don't let bacteria and all sorts of funk grow in your cooler
-We suggest cleaning your cooler box with soap and warm water. Perhaps some bleach if it smells funky

7. Store your Icecool Evakool cooler box inside
-It is not made to stand in the sun the whole year round. Please keep it inside in order to last forever

Why choose an Evakool cooler box with a divider?

Why choose an Evakool cooler box with a divider?

A divider cooler box will allow you to separate different items in your Cooler box for better space management.
  • Keep your drinks in the ice on one side and at the same time have ice on the other side to use for drinking-ice.
  • Keep food or ice separate from other cooled content
  • If you want to keep other food cold for example cheese or vegetables - you can keep the ice on one side and leave the dry food in the other side. This way it doesn't get wet or soggy from your ice.
  • The IK 45 divider and IK 85 divider cooler boxes give you exactly these options with the 45L space and 85L.
  • The Divider is part of the cooler box mold and can't be moved so no liquid can be seeping through to the other side. See images for more detail.

Tongue Stuck Tips

Tongue Stuck Tips

Remember this TOO COOL scene in the famous movie Dumb and Dumber starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels?

Tips to get rid of the tongue stuck?

1. Take deep breaths and stay calm. Panic will only make it worse.
2. Don’t pull too hard – you might cause damage and bleeding. Use this only as the last resort.
3. Drizzle warm water on the surface. Warm water is perfect but if you only have warm coffee or hot chocolate available, this will also do the job.
4. Call for help. If this is at all possible with your tongue-stuck.
